Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the protection of fish and wildlife habitat and water quality on Lake Pend Oreille, the department removed the 25-year-old wood dock located at the Bayview boat launch. This action was necessary due to the presence of Styrofoam beads leaking from the dock’s flotation system. The removal of the dock was conducted above the water line, during low water conditions, to help ensure protection of critical fishery habitat. The department was hopeful the dock would have a few more years of service left, unfortunately it did not, and it has reached its useful life expectancy. This was the last Styrofoam flotation dock left in the department’s inventory.
The department will look at options for replacement or modifications to the existing dock and post updates on the department website and Facebook page. We appreciate your patience.
