Kootenai County to Implement New Technology in the Snowgroomer Program

Beautiful Snow Day

The Snowgroomer Program has upgraded to Samsara satellite tracking-systems. Up to three snowmobile grooming machines are now able to be tracked in real-time while on their route. Notably, real-time tracking will relay critical information in the event of a mechanical breakdown or medical emergency. Additionally, the technology provides data necessary to post recently groomed trails on the Kootenai County website for users. The website should show this update on Dec. 15, 2021, contingent on snowfall.

Information for the Snowgroomer Program can be found through the Kootenai County Snowmobile Advisory Board.

The Kootenai County Snowmobile Advisory Board held their first meeting of the 2021-2022 winter season on Nov. 4, 2021. The Board of County Commissioners recently appointed three new advisory board members, which include; Rodney Waller, John Dawson, and Paul Ellis. Board member Donald West will serve as Chair, Joe Wuest as Vice Chair, and Al Beauchene and Tom Stangeland will continue serving on the advisory board for the 2021-2022 season.

Commissioner Leslie Duncan was in attendance and acknowledged outgoing board member Steve Powers at the meeting. Longtime members Ted Burnside, Lavern Welton, and Dale Adickes are also acknowledged for their significant contributions to the Snowgroomer Program. The Board of County Commissioners also recognize Snowgrooming Program founder, Mr. Del Kerr for his leadership from the start of the program in the late 1960’s. Commissioner Duncan stated, “I am very grateful to all who have served on the advisory board over the years and appreciate that their contributions made it possible for the public to enjoy nearly 300-miles of groomed trails in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest.”
