The Public Defender's Office provides legal representation as court-appointed attorneys for indigent clients in criminal cases, including felony, misdemeanor and selected civil cases, as well as for juveniles in criminal cases, and for children and their families in Child Protective hearings. Application for a Public Defender can be submitted to District Court, downstairs in the Justice Building at 324 Garden Avenue, Coeur d'Alene. A judge must grant the application.

Working for the Public Defender's Office

We are looking for attorneys of all skill levels. In the Public Defender’s Office we are trial attorneys representing people facing allegations in criminal court, juvenile court and select civil actions. We zealously represent our clients and protect Constitutional Rights. We are a busy, fast-paced office. We work both independently and as a team. Our environment is supportive and encouraging as well as fun. REQUIREMENTS: License to practice as an attorney in Idaho or an immediate candidate for Idaho State Bar licensing. Possess or have the ability to possess a driver’s license and are insurable. Reliable transportation for regular travel to and from various off-site locations (court house, jail, etc.)
